Photo of Around Old Puerto Plata

Puerto Plata Walk Around tour will take you to see the historical part of the city. In 1502 Governor of the new Spanish colony founded the town of Puerto Plata, the first permanent settlement along the north coast. In a century the city was destroyed. In 1730s group of Canary Islanders came to resettle it again. Later on the city grew under the influence of European immigrants, who left a cultural and social footprint that remains unique from other cities on the island. The current Puerto Plata began to be built in the second half of 19th century. This explains the Victorian style of much of its current architecture.
